Rome/Venice Travel Day

Well, we got up, grabbed a cappuccino and espresso and left the apartment. Due to some concern about bus 64 we had read, we walked all the way to Roma Termini... a long walk but it was nice to make one last pass past the Forum and Colosseum.

We visited the National Museum of Rome. Here's Bailley with The Boxer at Rest. We got through 1 of 4 buildings that comprise the museum. Oh well, maybe we will return some day.

We walked to Roma Termini and grabbed a bite before finding our train. Oh the humanity! Or I should say, oh the human masses. People and trains as far as the eye could see. An incredible confluence of people and cultures which is very befitting of the history of Rome.

The Tuscany region out the window of our train. Here's your very own replay of the trip: Me, "Hey look! A fortress/castle on a hill, surrounded by vineyards and a beautiful river!" then repeat that about every 5 minutes, until I realize that when we were not in a tunnel, I say that about every 10 miles. Those Tuscany countryside paintings that look unreal? They are real, very real.

Venezia! Our first stop at the Grand Canal. It was actually a long stop since finding the right vaporetto was more challenging than expected. However, it was a beautiful ride and once we reached the Ca'd'Oro stop we walked to the apartment in no time. The lady who showed us the apartment was Venetian and spoke no English, but we all are getting better with the language and hand signals and had no problem getting settled in.

We are on the corner with two canals. I'm on one balcony and the girls are on the other. That's my kids and a canal in Venice... that's almost unbelievable. Venice really is bella (beautiful).

Here's Abigail and Madison on the back (front? entrance side? non-canal-side?) of the apartment (at the end just above their heads).

This morning Cindy and I walked and got pastries, cappuccino, and espresso and we all ate at the apartment. The wifi is flakey, which is what I expected before the trip, but we got spoiled in Rome as it worked well. Cindy's and Abigail's phones connect, but my phone, Madison's, and my computer do not. Hmmm... oh well. Madison and I walked to the only free wifi I could find on Sunday, McDonalds. I had told the girls we are not going to any American places on this trip... I have already violated that for the sake of posting this. Oh well. New rule, no meals at American places, just drinks and wifi :)

Hopefully I'll be able to post later.
Ciao!
