Well, after a very late lunch we summoned enough energy to tackle one last trek. After yet another gelato stop, we headed off to the Borghese Gardens.
The girls beside Tevere, the Tiber River, at the beginning of another long walk.
Here's me and the girls with the 'other' side of Palatine Hill in the background. I didn't even recognize it from this view and had to look on google maps. The picture of Madison above the garden was taken just over those arches.
And all my girls on my daughters' first subway ride. This appeared to be the simplest way to get to the Borghese Gardens. The subway was nice and clean. I didn't even know Rome had a subway until I started reading before the trip. I read today that it isn't very extensive since every time they go to dig and add lines, they hit a new undiscovered set of ruins. I believe that, as when you walk around, there are excavations and columns everywhere.
As with most of our adventure so far, the gardens were fantastic, but along the way we found Piazza del Popolo... just stunning, and look, another obelisk and a beautiful fountain... not shocking at all in this place.
On the return trip, we exited the subway at the Colosseum for one last look at night.
Tomorrow we make our way to Venice via train, so updates may be off track for a while.
Ciao!
