Well, I got to experience my first canceled flight. It’s not as fun as it looks. Friday I get to airport, meet Bailley and we chat and relax while waiting. Finally, we board! And we’re off… not so fast. We taxi and before reaching the runway, we turn off on the section where they keep planes overnight away from the gates. Oh noes. They run some engine tests, then we return to the gate. We wait there for more tests. Then we deplane. This has to be around 9pm now. But cool, we got food vouchers, it’s ok. Well, no one would take the vouchers, so second meal in the airport. Finally around 11pm they said the flight was canceled and we’d leave Saturday at 4:30pm. Ok, midnight drive home and crash. Next morning, check email, flight delayed to 8pm. Hmmm, not a great start once again.
We get through security again and wait anxiously at the gate.
Bailley got called up for some document check and while there asked about upgrades. They were available and not too bad, so we took the plunge. It wasn’t quite as advertised, but it was still really nice. We were at least in the good enough section they gave out drinks in real glass before we even pushed from the gate. Pushed back, taxied, and… and…
And then there was a semi-frantic call over the PA with all the flight attendants rushing down the aisles, one with the AED device… then we stopped taxiing again. Medical emergency. Double oh noes. Well, not sure what happened, I guess a worse case always runs through your head, but after a delay, we started taxiing again… crisis averted. End of taxiing and finally, we take off!
